2009-10 Coach Training Requests - May 12, 2009
BC Freestyle is now taking requests for coaching courses in BC for the 2009-10 ski season.  Clubs and Ski Areas are asked to submit their requests for coach training to info@bcfreestyle.com. Please include the date, the type of training (Club Coach LI on snow), and location where the training is requested to happen.


Matt Crosby Retires from 11 years of Freestyle Skiing - May 7, 2009
Matt Crosby has had a great mogul skiing carreer.  He retired last week to give his back a well deserved rest.  Matt skied competitively for 11 years total and over those years has shown tremendous freestyle spirit.  Matt is a powerful skier with a smooth style in the air.  Matt is humble, driven and displays hard work ethic.  BC Freestyle would like to acknowlege Matt for his successes in freestyle skiing.  This season Matt had 18th (Gabriel) and 25th (Cypress) at World Cups.  Over the years Matt has frequented the podium at Nor-ams, Nationals and Canadian Series. 


2009 BC Freestyle Annual General Meeting - May 1, 2009
Yesterday the BC Freestyle Ski Association Board of Directors made a motion to set the BC Freestyle Ski Association 2009 Annual General Meeting for Saturday June 27, 2009 in Abbotsford BC.  A competition scheduling meeting will follow. Consider this as a general notice for planning purposes.  A detailed agenda, notice of location, available accommodations, Board of Director nomination procedures will be sent via e-mail to BC Freestyle members in the coming weeks.  Should you have any questions e-mail info@bcfreestyle.com.

Telus WSI Super Pipe Finals - April 21, 2009
BC Freestyle Ski TEAM's Colin Vaykovich (of Penticton) was the top BC Team finisher in Telus WSI Super Pipe Finals.  Colin was the 11th place finisher overall and 3rd top Canadian behind Nathon Wood and Mike Riddle.  BC Freestyle would like to congratulate Colin and all the BC Freestyle skiers that participated in this years WSI in Whistler.  For all the 2009 BC Freestyle results go here.

2009 Grand Prix Standings - April 16, 2009
BC Series Mogul and Big Air Series competitors can now see where they stand after the 2009 BC Freestyle Ski Series. Go to results to check out the standings.
Congratulations to the Grand Prix Champions: Andi Naude and Rylan Kappler were womens and mens GP Champions for moguls while Yuki Tsubota and Colin Vaykovich were women and men GP Champions for Aerials (aka. Big Air).

Canada Post BC Freestyle Ski Championship - April 5th, 2009
Whislter Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club teamed up with Blackcomb Mountain to host the final event in the 2009 BC Freesytle Ski Series.  With over 130 participants competing in Single Moguls, Dual Moguls, Big Air and Half Pipe there was plenty of excitement for athletes and spectators a like.  Results are now posted.


Canada Post Nationals Dual Moguls - March 29th, 2009
Dual Moguls won't be in the 2010 Olympics but it was a highlight event for the Freestyle Skiers today.  BC Freestyle's top 25 skiers were Mike Henitiuk (7th), Andrea Bull (11th), Chae Woo Choi (14th), Talia Koshlay (15th), Bruce Judd (15th), Clay Renwick (19th), Jakub Kalous (20th), and Carl Ryan (23rd). BC Mogul TEAM at Canada Post Freestyle Nationals - March 28, 2009
Single Moguls - The 2010 freestyle ski sites were tested for the final time before the Olypmics which will be held in February of 2010.  The top 25 BC Freestyle skiers were Rob Winter (5th), Mike Henitiuk (7th), Bruce Judd (14th), Talia Koslay (13th), Andrea Bull (15th), Jae Woo Choi (17th), Rylan Kappler (19th), Carl Ryan (21st) and Clay Renwick (25th). Canada Post Canadian Series Cypress - March 21, 2009
Andrea Bull (3rd) was the top BC skier at todays single mogul competiton.  This mogul course will be used for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.  There were 10 other BC Skiers in the finals and 26 BC Skiers competing today.  BC Freestyle, National Development, Apex, Silver Star, Mount Washington, Whistler/Blackcomb, Revelstoke and Cypress had teams competing this Canada Post event.  Dual moguls is tomorrow.  For full results go here.

Canada Post Canadian Series COP - March 15, 2009
Today was Dual Moguls and Garret Wilshire (Vernon) was the highlight of the day for BC TEAM as he ended up winning the mens duals. Other BC Skiers who made finals were Rylan Kappler (4th), Carl Ryan (6th), Kiera Leung (5th), Andrea Bull (14th), and Talia Koshlay (17th). For full Results go here.

Canada Post Canadian Series COP - March 14, 2009
Today was the Single Moguls competition at the Canada Post Canadian Series at COP in Calgary.   BC athletes stood on the podium today after some impressive skiing on this difficult course. Kiera Leung former BC Team athlete was the first place skier today with Andrea Bull sharing the podium in third. On the men's side Garret Wiltshire skied an impressive run with the fastest time of the day taking him to the third place spot on today's podium. Stay tuned for full results.

Canada Post Half Pipe Jr/Sr Nationals - March 13, 2009
With challenging pipe conditions BC lands 4 skiers in the finals.  Cameron Schuster, Colin Vaykovich, Simon D'Artois and Hunter Visser.  Results will be posted soon.

Freestyle Show Off weekend at Panorama - March 13, 2009
BC Freestyle athletes, coaches and officials will be participating at this weekends fun-filled freestyle ski event at Panorama.  Events will include the J&B's Fun event, Regional Slopestyle competition (qualifier for 2010 BC Winter Games) and the Panorama Freeriders annual Gala.  Go to http://www.panoramaresort.com to get a complete list of all the fun activities at Panorama.  For Gala information contact Panorama Freeriders.

COP Schedule and livestream video - March 13, 2009

Canada Post Jr. Nationals Results at Silver Star - March 9, 2009
BC athletes did awesome at the Jr. Nationals. Congratulations to over 35 athletes who represented BC Freestyle Jr. Nationals Team in the event.  By the end of the weekend BC Freestyle Jr. National Team collected 19 medals reached many personal bests.  Overall Results here.

World Freestyle Ski Championships Moguls - March 7, 2009
BC Freestyle would like to congradulate BC's Kristi Richards of Summerland and Chae Woo Choi of Whistler for their performances in Japan today.  Kristi finished 5th and Chae Woo Choi was 26th.  Kristi was the reigning world champion in womens moguls.  With Chae Woo's performance he has earned himself a spot at the 2010 Olympic games where he will ski for Korea.  To read more about Kristi go here.

Melin, Schuster and Tsbota on the Podium at Cypress - March 3, 2009

It was the 2nd day of the Canada Post Canadian Series Double Header Half Pipe event at Cypress.  Top finisher was Cole Melin of Vernon with the highest score of the 2 day event.  He impressed everyone by spinning a cork 5, cork 900, cork 1080 and a huge flare in his run.  Other BC Skiers on the podium were Cameron Schuster (2nd), and Yuki Tsubota (3rd).  Hunter Visser (4th), Simon D'Artois (9th), Colin Vaykovich (10th), were also in the finals.  For full results go to results.

5 BC Freestyle Team athletes make cut at Cypress - March 2, 2009

The Canada Post Half Pipe Canadian Series at Cypress was good for BC Half Pipe Ski Team.  D'Artois 2nd, Schuster 3rd, Vaykovich 4th, Melin 7th and Thackray 11th.  For all the results go to results.

Josh Dueck Wins World Championships Downhill - February 28, 2009
Last month BC Freestyle spoke to Josh Dueck in the "BC Freestyle Success Interview". Amazing things have happened to him in the last month. Since then Josh and his beautiful wife got married in Las Vegas and he won the Downhill at the Para-Alpine World Championships in Korea. Way to go Josh! A celebration is in the works for 8:30pm Thursday March 5, at the Saloon on Silver Star Mountain. Everyone of legal age is welcome.

COP Nor-am Dual Mogul Results - February 22, 2009
It was a tough steep icey course that had its challenges especially if you were in the Red line.  This is how BC Freestyle Ski Team skiers ended up among North Americas best dual mogul skiers:  Mike Henitiuk (19), Bruce Judd (21), Andrew Pool (31), Garrett Wiltshire (34), and Clay Renwick (47).  Other BC Skiers were Kiera Leung (26), Eddie Hicks (5), Matt Crosby (42), and Rylan Kappler (43).  Good work to all those that attended.  Full results here.

Halfpipe Dew Tour Results - February 21, 2009
BC Team Skier Matt Margetts and former BC Team Skier Justin Dorey went for it in the pipe tonight.  Matt finished 8th and Justin Dorey 11th among the worlds best.  Full results here.


Slopestyle Dew Tour Results - February 20, 2009
BC Team skier Matt Margetts and Vernon resident TJ Schiller competed in Slopestyle in Tahoe today.  Matt finished 20th and TJ 18th among the world best.  Full results here.


COP Nor-am Half Pipe Results - February 20, 2009
BC Freestyle Half Pipe Team was shredding the Pipe at COP tonight.  Best results from BC Team skiers were Tasha Wood(3), Cam Schuster (3), Simon D'Artois (5) and Colin Vaykovich (9). Full results here.


COP Nor-am Single Mogul Results - February 19, 2009
BC Freestyle Mogul Team was pounding bumps at the COP Nor-am this week.  Top finisher was Mike Henitiuk (21) followed by Bruce Judd (28), Andrew Pool, (34), Garrett Wiltshire (41) and Clay Renwick (45).  Other BC Skiers were Kiera Leung (21), Matt Crosby (11), Eddie Hicks(20) and Rylan Kappler (35).  Full results here.

BC Ski Cross Championships - February 19, 2009

The first BC Ski Cross Championship was concluded at Red Mountain Resort on Feb. 14, 2009. It was a great success. The feedback was all positive and the event is a stepping stone for BCSX to continue with the March 19 NorAm event also at Red Mtn. See

BC Skiers Qualify for World Champs - February 10, 2009
Justin Dorey and Matt Margetts have earned themselves spots at the 2009 FIS World Freestyle Ski Championships in Japan.  Both skiers will ski in the half pipe event.  Other BC Skiers going to the FIS Freestyle World Championships are Kristi Richards (Moguls), Chae Woo Choi (Moguls) and Steve Omichle (Aerials). Worlds will be at Inawashiro Japan March 1-8.


2009 Cypress World Cup - Feburary 8, 2009
Canada earned 5 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze at this weekends World Cup.  The event was amazing and an excellent test for the Olympics.  For full results go to www.freestyleski.com.



BC Half Pipe TEAM - February 2, 2009
BC Half Pipe Team had a great weekend competing in their first world cup in Park City, Utah. It was the highest attended pipe world cup ever. BC athletes went head to head with X games veterans like Colby West, Mike Riddle, Justin Dorey and Xavier Bertoni this years X games pipe champion. Simon d’Artois was BC TEAMs top finisher. BC Series Half Pipe - February 1, 2009
25 kids from Whistler and the Okanagan freestlye clubs competed in the BC pipe contest. Half pipe is one of the most thrill seeking events in freestyle because of its fast pace, big airs, and cool tricks. The kids had a great time and tons of smiles. For results go here.

TJ Schiller wins Gold at 09 X Games - January 26, 2009
Fresh off an ACL repair TJ only had an alternate spot for the 09 X Games.  He got into slopestyle the day before because of a series events that played in his favour.  In the first run of the finals he put down a great run.  It was unbeatable in a tight course.  For results and video go here.

Dorey 4th at X Games Finals - January 23, 2009
Former BC Team skier Justin Dorey beat out current BC Team skier Matt Margetts in X Games Qualifications.  Matt becoming known as the bubble man at major pipe events in 2009 ended up 9th.  It won't be long and he will be on the podium with Dorey.  In the finals Justin Dorey finished 4th behind the biggest names in freeskiing.  Congratulations to both for living the dream.

This former BC TEAM competititor finished just behind Tanner hall at the Dew Tour Super Pipe event on Saturday night. Newschoolers.com proclaimed this as "one of the most technical runs ever in a super pipe competition".

Here you will find the most up to date British Columbia freestyle skiing information. To participate in safe and fun organized freestyle skiing participants must join a BC Freestyle Ski Club.  There are freestyle clubs located throughout the province, find one at your local ski hill. If you would like to start a club please contact info@bcfreestyle.com.

The British Columbia Freestyle Ski Association is a non-profit society with the mission to promote, develop and administer in a fun, safe and ethical manner the sport of freestyle skiing within British Columbia.  BC Freestyle runs several programs including the BC Mogul Ski Team, BC Halfpipe Ski Team, High Performance Regional Program, Coach Development, Officials Development, Judging Development and Club Development.
